The Meg Review

Content Advisory: There is 1 cut off F-word, and a few other swear words. This movie also contains major violence with a shark eating many people.

Plot Summary: Billionaire Morris pays for a giant underwater research center to test a theory to find if the Mariana Trench is hiding a deeper world. After being crushed, Jonas has to face his fears and dive down to save the crew. When they escape they release a megalodon and are forced to find and kill it.

This movie is a tricky one, depending on how you look at it. When I watch movies I try to make them as fun as I can, so I took this one that way and will probably come out with a better review than most. The main problem I have with this movie is their variety of genres.

Although they only pick 3 genres the movie goes for many, horror, action, comedy, sci-fi, and adventure. If they had picked 2 that went well together it might have been better. Because its hard to change the mood from a giant shark killing people then make a joke. Also, I feel this movie would have been perfect for strictly a horror movie, quiet dead ocean with a giant shark.

There’s not much plot, but I don’t think that’s what they had in mind when making it. Basically, they find a separate hidden part of the ocean with a giant megalodon and accidentally let it free. They are forced to kill it obviously. Up until now only a couple of important people die, then it wraps up fairly well, then boom megalodon 2.0 jumps out kills like 10 important characters. Not sure if that was a good plot or not, but I feel like the first half of the movie is very different from the second half.

The actual content of the movie is why I give it a higher rating. It was fairly action-packed, had some good humor in it, and kept me on my nerve while watching it. I thought it was entertaining, but not too well made. Overall I would probably watch this movie again with family or friends. I do think if you were intrigued by this review, that you should probably see it once.
